Generation TECH - Teacher Resources
Tools, training, and support make this program a comprehensive
solution for schools looking to start a student technology program or
enhance an existing one. Assessment tools, rubrics and a companion electronic
gradebook complement the curriculum.
Generation YES Website
Teachers can track student progress from their own personal home page
on the Generation YES website.Teachers have direct access to every student
in any class, and can make comments and edit student work online. All
student contracts, projects, and journals are accessible from the teacher
class management interface. In addition, a database of all TECH Learning
Resources submitted by Generation TECH students across the country provides
examples and ideas for projects.
Assessment
Assessment is based on detailed, classroom-proven rubrics for contracts,
journals, projects, and learning resources. The goal is that the students
demonstrate their learning by problem solving in real-life school technology
situations. The curriculum guide offers suggestions and numerous example
of authentic assessment for both classroom use and independent study.
Assessments measures both products and process and are specifically designed
for the Generation TECH student tech support curriculum. Assessment instruments
and rubrics are found in the program guide and teacher resource section
of the website.
Companion Gradebook
Teachers will find that the included electronic gradebook is an excellent
guide to assessing student project work. Teachers find that project-based
classrooms can be tough to assess, but the gradebook provides a practical
way to keep track of student work and commitments.
Included Training and Support
Professional development gives teachers hands-on time with Generation
TECH tools. Led by an experienced Generation TECH master trainer, these
trainings allow teachers to interact with the resources at their own pace,
and discuss their unique school situation. The basic Generation TECH license
gives the Generation TECH teacher unlimited time online and on the phone
with a master Generation TECH trainer.
Generation TECH offers the teacher unlimited support by email and phone
from the Genreration TECH staff. In addition, there is a collaboration
network on the Generation TECH site allowing communication with other
Generation TECH teachers for support and program questions.
Optional On-site, Hands-on Workshops
A full-day on-site workshop is a valuable addition to the basic Generation
TECH license. Program start-up issues are addressed along with security
issues and individual needs. The optional workshops can give the potential
Generation TECH teacher a more intensive training experience, and also
allow other stakeholders to attend these trainings. In fact we suggest
that technology personnel, administrators and students attend. This demystifies
the program and shows everyone that student tech support can be a well-thought
out, academically enriched class that supports the school technology plan
with additional resources.
Option A - Single school workshop. Your Generation
TECH master trainer will work side-by-side with the designated Generation
TECH teacher throughout the school day, teaching the tools to students,
and modeling the instructional pedagogy of the curriculum to the teacher.
The day includes a 2-hour workshop for staff and administration to address
issues of logistics and security at the school site. This is a valuable
way to quickly immerse the students and staff into Generation TECH for
immediate results.
Option B - Multiple school workshop. Your Generation
TECH master trainer will work with up to 20 teachers and staff from
multiple schools in a single day workshop at your training site. Selected
students can be included in this workshop if desired. This type of training
is valuable as well, and promotes sharing and synergy over multiple
sites.
