Generation GIT - Girls Issues & Technology

This curriculum guide offers a teacher or counselor assistance in teaching technology in a new way. Focusing on human issues and personal projects, this guidebook offers modules, activities, best practices and advice on setting up a non-traditional technology course.
In this 1999 "Intel Innovations in Teaching" award winning program, students become empowered to think for themselves and solve problems of interest to them with technology. Each course unit emphasizes an issue important to adolescent girls. Technology skills are taught to allow the students to express their own ideas and solutions to these issues.
The confidence that students gain in this environment enables them to succeed in traditional classes and in life.

Unique Curriculum
This curriculum was designed by a GenYES teacher who wanted to change the gender imbalance in her technology classes. Created as a "girls only" class, the modules and activities are designed from an understanding of how girls learn, what is important to girls, and what interests them. In Generation GIT, girls find out they have the power to learn technology when put in a meaningful personal context.
Modules include:
- eating disorders
- media influence
- career exploration
- women's self defense
- dealing with grief and loss
