Ralph Bunche MS and Yuma District #1
Hi GenYES Facilitators,
Getting lots of news from GenYES facilitators this week. Here are two highlights:
Ralph Bunch MS - Compton, CA — The George Lucas Education Foundation were so impressed with the GenYES team at Bunche MS they were invited (and paid for) the entire class to come to the bay area and visit production studios as well as meet with computer science staff at the University of California, Berkeley. Congratulations to their super facilitator Jose Gonzalez. As you can see from these photos, they had a good time time last week. Note the GenYES t-shirts.
Yuma District #1 - Arizona — This large elementary school district with 17 GenYES schools held its annual technology PD day for all teachers. The twist is that the STLs delivered all the PD to the teachers. Check out more information about this event and more at the GenYES - iTEAM Blog. Kudos to district GenYES coordinator Janna Perez.
Lots of press on student leadership and activism. Here are a couple of articles from last week that are of special interest to GenYES facilitators:
Education Week — Let the Youth Lead
Fast Company — The Parkland Teens Are Part Of A Long Line Of Kids Who Led Social Change
I am attending the National Consortium for Digital Equity Summit on March 5 and 6 in Washington DC. Will report on that next week.
TAP of the Week
Today's TAP of the Week comes from a 12th grader at Del Mar High School in California, where an STL helped out the science department.
